Since leaving the Soft Boys, Robyn Hitchcock has been making consistently good pop-rock albums, with a signature variety of acerbic lyrics. This album definitely continues this trend and features nice contributions from his backing band, (including some R.E.M. alums). FCC CLEAN

1) Reminiscent of Dylan’s more recent stuff with a little Memphis R&B thing going on.
2) Nice chiming electric guitars with darker vocals / organs
3) Bouncy, offbeat, pop-track
*4) Pop-rock with nice multi-part harmonies
5) Dark acoustic country shuffle that reminds me a little of Leonard Cohen (Colin Meloy contributes some vocals to this one)
6) Darker ballad
7) Folksy jangly pop, with Horns
8) Repeating chorus… “love between a woman and man is an intricate thing.”
*9) Drugged out '50s pop groove
10) Dense, hypnotic composition with strings
