Viking Skull – Doom Gloom Heartache & Whiskey (Candlelight USA) Heavy doomish/Southern rawk with Jim Beam affected vocals. Very riffy, thunderin’ and punky not far from a more straight up version of Birds of Prey mixed with more of an Alabama Thunderpussy/Clutch/AntiSeen thing. Big, burly rockin’ and a lot of fun. Simple and direct and catchy that it should be mega on AOR radio, lhow could they NOT play this next to Nazereth or early ZZ Top?
(((1))) Fairly solid, catchy & simple but a little TOO simple.
((((2)))) Swampy, swaggery Southern Sludge Metal done right. AntiSeen’s Jeff Clayton approves this message.
((((3)))) Typical but damn potent “stoner rawk” riff with Jeff Clayton’s long lost cousin on vocals. How many other songs (like this) have been built off of “Hole in the Sky” by Sabbath?
((((4)))) Starts with a beer openining then kicks out the jams all fast & furious. Rudimentary but total heavy rawk vibe. Lots of classic rock styled guitar/drum breaks. Nice soloing, too.
(((5))) Swaggery, typical, grizzly bear vocals Southern sludge rawk. Not bad but too typical.
(((6))) Overall decent and very catchy but a little flat in places.
((((7)))) Revved up like a tricked out ’68 Camaro, all guns ablazin’ and all that.
((((8)))) Chunky riffin’ with a anthemic vibe. Very stripped down (even more than the earlier tunes).
((9)) (FCC “shit” sung 6 times) Ye olde Saloon piano drunky goofiness.
