Doctors & Dealers “Lost friends and newfound habits”
Swedish whimsical pop w/ quirky lyrics. Sardonic humor, offbeat lyricism and gummy accent mix to make the female soloist (named “Sparrow” – how hipster!) unique. All songs are short, typically around 2 mins, and are best when isolated. The CD as a whole is a bit too much kitsch to handle at once!
FCCs – 3, Start with 1, 3, 4, 11 basil
1)*** Funky, punctuated guitar, soft female vox “Everytime I see you on the dance floor, baby what a show"
2) ** FCC “Bitch” Simple piano ditty, vox & notes rise & fall in sync
3) ***upbeat, the sun is shining! But wait, there’s murder in the lyrics…
4) **carousel beat, up & down & full of bells; fun duet about arrogance
5) *uptempo, streaming lyrics; almost has a shoegazey feel
6) mournful tone + violins. I missed em, but apparently there are loads of pop cultural references in the lyrics. please explain them to me!
7) retro ragtime piano w/ upbeat drumming, nice harmonies
8) Unrestrained cheese! preschool-level schmaltz, I don’t care if she's being ironic
9) Dark & svelte, very 1920s. too bad it’s just not her genre!
10) * John Brion-esque flute start, nice trombone
11) **Uptempo; Simple but intriguing narrative about a bad date
12) subdued lullaby w/ some nice glockenspiel action; soft listening
13) bubbly bell-filled sameness
14) *Kazoo, xylaphone, ukelele mix = cheery!
