French minimalist experimental pop sums it up well. It’s also dark in a delicious way. She has a high-pitched girly voice a little like Blonde Redhead’s Kazu Makino of Blonde Redhead, but uses it in sultry ways like Portishead’s Beth Gibbons. Flute used to very good effect. And look at how incredibly cool these two are, sitting there, just oozing hipness. And they made this music, the album you’re holding in your hand, which is actually very good. But overall left me feeling unsatisfied, a little nauseated, like they hadn’t reached the musical climax they’d promised. But what constitutes a promise….? No FCCs dudes cause it’s all in French. Try 7, 2, 1, 10, 9, 13
(1) Sparse eerie start – vocals sound like she snuck up behind you and starting whisper singing in your ear. Beat enters ~1:50. She does a sort of duet with a flute toward the end of the track. (2) * Unsettling noises, industrial heaviness stripped bare (3) Pop song structure – flute over sampled beat (4) Electronics, pop, sunnier vocals (5) Kooky vocals, offbeat off tune (6) New wavey, synth stereo magic that doesn’t really go anywhere… (7) * Good beat, excellent use of flute with catchy electronics (8) Pop fluff that’s like J-pop but without the Japanese (9) * Gothic - dark atmospheric ambient noise (10) *Slightly frenetic beat, and the joy division pedal on the bass (11) Upbeat poppyness (12) joy division pedal again, this time over sparse techno beat (13) Clip-clop horsey beat, rockin’ hook catchy chorus (14) Gentle closer – playful nonsense vocals & sampled electro.s.
