Ragnar of Ravensfjord Reviewed 2009-04-21 | ||
Rather good technical death metal from San Diego with a sarcastic pro-animal, anti-human theme. (Makes sense since they’re big supporters of P.E.T.A.). Guttural but semi-audible vocals and lots of crazed time changes. This has guest appearances by Jarboe (Swans), Jackie Perez Gratz (Grayceon, Amber Asylum) and Ross Sewage (Impaled, Ghoul). Sort of similar to mid-period Cryptopsy, Napalm Death & even Absu. ((((1)))) Speedy, tech-y, Death Metal with lots of strange & unpredictable twists & turns. ((((2)))) Rrrorrrroorrr! And a bunch of twisted riffs & guitar flurries. Vocals that run the gamut from guttural to raspy to audiable. ((((3)))) Screamed out, blasting drums intro, very calculated tempo – very catchy while still remaining fast & potent mix of Death & Black Metal. ((((4)))) Horrific intro of a person getting teeth ripped out. Chuggin’ along punctuated with some nice blasting & spiraling sections. Lots of “tortured pig” vocals and some cleaner sections. (((5))) Super technical and spastic to the point of just silly. You’re Cattle Decap not Origin or Skinless. ((((6)))) Hammering drums and chugging riffs. Some pretty good blasting & clanging cymbals. (((7))) Lots of stop/starts but drags a little. ((((8)))) Wild tech-death with odd metered tempo and some really crazy changes. (((9)))) Buzzing intro, slow mellow guitar with Jarboe’s sullen, wordless vocals. (((((10)))))) Bassy, cello (from Jackie) & elongated screams then blazing speed & blasting drums then back to the beginning with dueting(?!) vocals and blast again. A real stunner! |
