Kernel (Yasushi Miura)
Magnitude No. 8
High-bpm minimal anti-bass glitchy IDM done right. Similar to matmos, matthew dear, sped up early autuchre. Try tracks 2 & 4. Yasushi releases all of his stuff under different pseudonyms, but all of them are titled as Magnitude No. ‘..’.
2. fast pace phone tones and robot squeaks. Builds in complexity, feels all over the place but it retains a steady rhythm, helped largely by a steady, rudimentary drumbeat.
4. chopped and sped steel drum & marimba pinball game. I can’t think of anything else this fast that’s nearly as relaxed.
5. slow, no beat. remember putting your kids to sleep? But you were already kind of drunk and space out off ambien? And one of those wind up machines that make that music kids love is playing, but to you it sounds like an intro to some old, poorly acted science fiction movie? Or maybe some beat from a 1996 4-track tape from the living legends? Bicasso says hi.
6. ascending tidal wave of glitch. Starts pretty calm but gets bigger and bigger and bigger.
7. one single solitary sound repeated at high frequency for two minutes. Not for the faint of heart.
