Thieves Like Us “Play Music” Electro-pop group crafts minimalist thumps, snare snaps and synth aching to be grooved along to. Name is from a New Order track & many of the Thieves’ songs pull from the new wave group, but not without a unique freshness. Play any track nice and loud and let the percussion rattle your heart, inspire your feetsies to tap and head to nod. Thieves Like Us are Andy Grier (US) and 2 Swedes: Björn Berglund and drummer Pontus Berghe. They met while living in Berlin but now call Paris home.
NO FCCS Try 2, 8, 7, 11, 9 basil
1) **snare, simple electro beats turn bitchin; deep, cool lyrics “you need me, admit it”
2) ***DiscOH so good! Upbeat & peppy w/o losing its cool “go downtown put the drugs in my body…say up late put some heat in my heartache”
3) *New Order is back! (*ClapClapClap*) If only I were bold enough to try acid…
4) *Acoustically space-defying eeps & bleeps; Darker, driving track
5) *Is that a wood pecker? Pop popopopopop! high energy bursts into streaming electro
6) * Steel drums respond to booming bass; haunting but leaves an impression
7) *** feels low @ a high tempo; dark organ + deep percussion + streaming space synth!
8) *** daydream about David & Angela Bowie; great disco whippin snare
9) **Chill driving guitar, deep vos accelarate until peaking w/ fluttering flute-like synth
10) **starts like Moby’s “We are all made of stars” then BOOM! Percussion! Snare! Pull it back now – midtempo cycling of phrase “like waves do”
11) *** Vox fits melancholy vibe; “I get along/With sugar & song” (don’t we all!)
