Fuziko Hemming - "Fuziko Hemming"
Reviewed by Yumpop 12.13.09

A quiet but rich and heartfelt solo piano album of introspective, mostly lesser-known pieces. Hemming plays Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Scarlatti, and Debussy. What she lacks in technique, she makes up for with plenty of feeling and sensitivity. Soothing classical piano music, but not strong on interpretation.

*1. A rather delicate rendition of Beethoven's Sonata 17, 3rd movement. Makes Beethoven almost fragile in places.
2. Chopin's famous Nocturne 1. A rather slow, extremely legato version.
3. Ambling, thoughtful rendition of Lizst's La Campanella.
4. Pretty, Romantic piece played gently, perhaps a bit lackadaisically.
5. Uptempo Lizst etude. Brooding and heavy. Beethoven-esque late night listening.
6. Pleasant if not memorable interpretation of Chopin etude.
7. Chopin's well known Waltz 1. A bit hesitant, lacks the exuberance of the best performances of this piece.
*8. Lizst's Liebestraum; a romantic, slow performance. Takes time to develop the musical phrases but with this piece, it works!
9. Upbeat Scarlatti sonata played with a delicate touch.
10. Chopin's Etude No. 1, 1st movement. Brooding but not sad.
11. Slow performance of this well known Nocturne. Technically sound, but somehow dynamically flat. Yet, nicely played.
*12. Debussy's Clair De Lune. Upbeat performance with a delicate touch. Good performance.
