Zevious: After the Air Raid FCC: Clean (reviewed by “Uncle Steve”)

Instrumental only. Guitar-led, complex jazz-rock fusion. Driving rhythm, with odd meter & interesting syncopation (even in the down-tempo pieces). Reminds me of Frank Zappa or John McLaughlin/Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Overall: Production seemed a bit distant. Very competent instrumentalists (guitarist talented, some flashes of excellence; drummer & bassist quite solid). Most pieces have very similar sounds.

Recommended Tracks: 2 (starts down-tempo & builds), 4 (starts soft & builds, then relaxed, nice acoustic bass work), 7 (comparatively minimalist approach, down-tempo, but still driving), 10 (interesting counterpoint between soft guitar arpeggios phrases & phrases with power chords with heavy distortion).
