Jazz vocals (f), soulful. Piano + voice. Songs are either jazz-blues, honkey-talk, art. Feminist perspective of “Mary Magdalen” myths- Maeve=Mart- text of these songs inspired by “Maeve Chronicle” books- tells an alternative version of a bit of the Christian mythology. ++1.Gospel-blues, vocal & piano. “There will be passion… morning noon and night.” (goes well with next track) +2. Spoken story over light jazz piano, sets the scene and introduces characters. Interesting tale. A little singing at the end ++3. pretty acapella, text is poem from 1800’s Scotland 4. folk-blues, mid-tempo guitar & gently percussion 5.Blues-walk. Whore or bride? (Like what DaVinci code was about) +6.overly-pretty guitar, good folk-singing (reminds me of Ann Magnusson)- voices overdubbed for choral quality at end 7.Spaghetti-western music +8. Acapella feminist ode to moms +9. Sad & blue vocal & piano, loss of daughter 10. Slow & blue jazz, mourning song 11.slow folk +12.Track 3 sung by a chorus. If you’re into Polyphonic Spree then you’re probably going to like this too. ++13.Love/spirituality song. Starts with voice & guitar, then piano (yay), then synths (boo) |
