STATIC OF THE GODS-KNOWLEDGE MACHINE
(delVERANO RECORDS.)
as reviewed by mr. esq.
pop. almost-kinda-sorta dreampop.
static of the gods (great name) is from boston.
a trio. three guys. and an uncredited female vocalist.
so i guess that makes them a quartet? not much info to go on.
the album was recorded at a farmhouse in vermont.
if you like madder rose, 10, 000 maniacs, sugarcubes, motels, altered images -you'll like this. dreamy poppy.
great for suburban housewives to take pharma to after a long day. dim the lights&relax. i really liked this.
and i'm not a suburban housewife.
recommended tracks: 2,3,4,7,9,11.
FCC CLEAN.
1. pretty, synthy. kinda sounds like maria mc kee singing.
*2. lovely middle&vocals. dreamy. 'ooo woo ooo wooo-ooo' (has she discovered the pleasures of a vi-) *3. great intro -building w/hum. vocals kick in double tracked=lovely. *4. driving pop. i'm really starting to like her voice. 5. sweet maniacs. then it gets lame. 6. drone opening, and it gets pretty...cheesy. *7. BEST TRACK: dancy opening. is that a farfisa? muffled beatbox; nightclub noir feel; kick in rock up middle. reminds me a lot of latter-day madder rose =i love it. 8. sad soundy. *9. sadder soundy. the drum pounds. someone's lost in the forest. great middle-pretty guitars. 10. dancy opening into dreampoppy. *11. soaring; cool distorted guitars; vocals going cocteau. is it echo, or is it pharma&a vi-
