Bare-essentials lighthearted funny/pretty/cheeky/playful homebrew indie. Ensemble instrumentation: violin, horns, guitars, kitchen sink percussion, lots of voices. Once a year these kids congregate in a living room and cut a record. In a day. On Christmas. Yes, they're my friends. What of it?
try: 8/9, 10, 1, 14, 3
FCC: 7
*1. pretty slow electric melody, jazzy horn. haunty whispery sad lennonesque vox.
2. sounds like clock chimes. lilty strumming, solo horn, female vox.
*3. echoey fuzzy cheerful guitar and wispy pop vox. off-kilter kit and shuffling beat.
4. hard banjo and rambly river bluesy vox. the devil, etc.
5. pleasant, springy instrumental. acoustic guitar, violin, oboe?
6. soft, gentle, drumless. vox a la… sarah mclaughlin.
7. FCC ba ha. "you don't know what's in my beard?" funny laid back rockin' farce. play after-hours.
*8. fucking awesome speed-spoken interview about living abroad in a third-world country. can play with #9.
*9. driving dark minor twang. falsetto. punk rocky guitar freakouts. integrates samples of the speedtalk interview in #8.
*10. cover of the classic. it's impossible for this song to suck. beautiful by default. ensemble vox. lots of pedal, lush, ethereal.
11. slowish high/sweet strummed chords + achey purty male vox.
12. click-clack percussion, draggy sticky 3/4 guitar. sounds like falling down.
13. messy start, bar noise. moody minor lo-fi downtempo rocker. raw/garagey. high growly vox (see: tom waits). abruptly changes tack midway in and commences a three minute outro... with more freeform angry vox.
*14. ambient glitchy noise. slowish warm bells, horns. high keys. airy indie vox. combats a polite drum/electro machine towards the end.
