Pacific Northwest musical sample artists. Think Tipsy, People Like Us, Negativland, Evolution Control Committee, i.e. all the greats, with a dash of Amon Tobin. Uses a lot of old records and sound bites, familiar stuff tossed in and very fun. Whereas Tipsy was always concerned with sample clearance I doubt these guys got clearance from Dolly Parton et al. This places them more in the ranks with Culturcide. Fun and musical, not cloying like some “retro-lounge” mashups can be, and musical unlike People Like Us or Wobbly etc. Great stuff that centers around samples taken from some children’s records, all songs brief. If silly. Tons and tons of great little interludes in here to spice up your show, some just silly, some irreverent and sick.
1) upbeat silly with band introduction “are you a band?!”
2) dancy good beat, with a western flare, fun, very Tipsy
4) brief faux radio LID for them
5) Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” is ass raped, bent, folded and mutilated
6) upbeat, childlike samples
7) brief: “don knots” looped
8) upbeat electrorock, with breathy-airy retro female melodic “la la’s”
9) mashes up Mexican tambora, strange
10) downtempo, with flute melodies, distant chipmunk backgrounds, and I’m pretty sure he keeps saying “dumb”
11) YES! They take the famous “dogs singing jingle bells” apart
12) brief, “make a funny sound” looped
13) upbeat, childs voice “nobody loves me”, very 50’s kitsch but some sick twists for sure
14) brief silliness, “diarrhea?”
15) eletrofun, silly synth melody
16) quintessential stuff plunders Christian childrens record, Noah’s flood and other fairy tales
17) funky disco feel
18) the disco continues
19) more of an 80’s disco feel now
20) disco madness continues
21) someone had to destroy the David Lee Roth studio recordings, van halen!!!
22) swingy funky beat with asian voice samples (this is familiar but I cant place it)
23) more pop silliness with 50’s voice sample
24) upbeat silly 80’s feel
25-27) silly electro pop just wont stop
28) brief, child singing “I am a promise”
29) sounds exactly like King Missle, upbeat strange, great!, uses the old “do you have a friend” sample
30) 50’s samples “that’s the end of the album
