The Famous: Come Home to Me The Famous is an alt-country/rock band based here in Palo Alto and comprises of a number of Stanford alums (I went to school w/ Laurence Scott, the lead singer). I saw them at Thee Parkside in SF back in March and they totally rocked the house down. Their sound is generally alt-country, as the instrumentation & vocals have definitely that Texas twang. Yet their compositions range from truckin' honky-tonk to moody indie rock with elements of post-punk. They're definitely not a typical country group, as Palo Alto is a long way from Texas - and they definitely stretch the boundaries of alt-country as well. Great pedal steel work on a number of tracks. Try: 2,3,5,7,8,11. 1. Indie-infused country-rock, alternates between soft moments and loud kickin' choruses 2. Drivin' honky-tonk flavored Texas road-house alt-country 3. Twangy alt-country w/ some great guitar action and catchy choruses 4. Country-flavored indie rock w/ a post-punk feel 5. Slow & moody, meandering post-rock even w/ blues-y trombone riffs 6. Tex-Mex rock, noisy and wild 7. Bouncy alt-country with a catchy pop sensibility 8. Slower, thoughtful and mellow w/ great pedal steel work 9. Grindin' guitars on this rocker, builds up intensity 10. Rockin' alt-country song, one ought to drink a beer to this one 11. Lovely instrumental, mellow and gentle as you drive into the sunset | ||
