Aloe Blacc: Good Things Label: Stones Throw
Wow, this is my recommendation for album of the year. I loved every song in this album. This is some really great soul/R&B, done in a very sincere style. Aloe's words are thoughtful, and the melodies just grab you deep in your gut like good soul music always should. DO NOT MISS #7, a cover of VU's "Femme Fatale". All good, but you should try: 1,3,8,12,13.
1. Lovely plaintive urban soul, beautifully done
2. A sweet acoustic-esque style to this one
3. Funky groove! Nice horns, great Hammonds, got a Blaxpoitation flavor to it
4. Nice soul song set to a reggae-dub tempo
5. Slow & melancholy soul, with fem vox chorus backing
6. Moody track. Insistent and visceral soul.
7. Ooh, a soul cover of Velvet Underground's "Femme Fatale"! Smooth & sexy!
8. A sweet R&B track, catchy pop sensibilities here
9. Fantastic guitar here, warm vocals, catchy melodies
10. Gentle & loving soul in the style of Al Green
11. Sloooow soul simmer. Genuine old school romantic here.
12. Family-based lyrics, lovely ballad
13. Great horns - retro soul vibe that takes you way back
