MOONSHINE HOOLIGANS -- "SUBTERRANEAN SECRETS" -- Big banjo sounds seriously powerful -- not just hootenanny! Fiddle is top-notch too. Check it out.
Best Tracks: 8, 2, 7, 5, 4, 6. -- Sunshine January 2011
*** 1) Intro -- Big fanfare to start album makes you wonder what comes next. 2:05.
**** 2) B is For Banjo -- Same basic feeling/tune as "Intro" but more Bela Fleckish. Fiddle too. Subtle vocals, but instruments are the big deal here. I like it. Would play On Air. 5:15
*** 3) `The Knife Waltz -- Much calmer than #2 . . . a little bit oom pah pah (guess that';s the 1-2-3 waltz count), but picks up steam along the way. Neil Youngish vocals. 4:01
***+ 4) The County Line -- Piano or calimba sounds like magical harp..Slow, moody. Nice soulful vocal harmonies. 3:01
**** 5) Moonshine Theme -- Nice pickin'. Even has a washboard. "Handclaps" are mentioned on musicians' credits! Only vocals are a few "Heys" or "oys". Harmonica. 2:30
***+ 6) Arcadia -- Now this one IS more like a hootenanny! Arcadia is next to where I grew up, and I don't get it! But the mandolin and fiddle are cool anyway. 5:18
**** 7) Final Story of the Night -- Harmonica, Meliotron with a beat. Decent vocals. 3:14
*****+ 8) Moonshine Dub -- My Favorite! Naturally, there's dubstyle, considering the title. Rainstorm effects too. Wonderful instruments plus good vocals. I will play this On The Air! Seriously. 3:30
