The sophomore release from Sharon Van Etten, a female singer/songwriter graced with a truly angelic voice, which is a sort of Joni Mitchell/Sheryl Crow/Fiest hybrid. Dramatic song structures, epic orchestration, add to the mix to make this a truly fantastic release.
FCC: Track 3

***1. A bit of a downer, but it’s beautiful in a sort of Neutral Milk Hotel way. Strummy and dripping with emotion.
***2. Upbeat and super dramatic. A sort of movie intro-credits song with high-reaching vocals and crashing tides of drums. Perhaps the best song on the album.
3. FCC (shit) Country ballad with slide guitar. Beautiful backup vocals.
4. Slow and beautiful—a great showcase of her great vocal range. 1 minute fade out at the end.
5. Slow introduction—lots of scratchy atmosphere. Great song structure and excellent ghostly backup vocals. Lyrics are a bit mundane though...
***6. A great midtempo indie rocker song with a hint of country. EXCELLENT VOCALS.
**7. EPIC AS HELL. Slow and gradually builds, like a female folksy Sigur Ros. Tons of interesting instrumentation and gentle arrangements.
