Yep. It’s THAT Tony Joe White — the guy with the 1969 novelty hit, “Polk Salad Annie.” That's on here, along with some other groovy tunes. This 2010 Rhino issue is a just-discovered live set from ’71. Tony Joe heats it up with his hollowbody archtop, harmonica, and gravely voice. Lots of fun if you like southern-fried, bluesy, juke joint stuff like Elvin Bishop or Delbert McClinton. His voice may at times remind you of John Mayall. The band includes bassist Donald “Duck” Dunn of Booker T & the MGs and (later) the Blues Bros.
No FCC issues.
There are tracks here that would fit well on a Country, Blues, or Americana program.

1. "Roosevelt and Ira Lee" - The top of the set cooker. The guitar's tone is set on “mud.” Organ & drums drive the up-tempo groove. (5:30)
2. * "Another Night in the Life of a Swamp Fox" - One of those “life on the road with the band” stories. TJ sings like John Mayall, plays like Creedence. Fun. (6:34)
3. "Rainy Night in Georgia" - Soul singer Brook Benton had a ‘70 hit with this Tony Joe song. TJ's version is slow & soulful. Best played with someone special by a fireplace. (4:48)
4. * "MIssissippi River" - A love song for that big, muddy river that runs down the middle of America. (5:18)
5. "Lustful Earl and The Married Woman" - Mid-tempo country blues about foolin’ around & getting’ caught. (Be ready to fade this out after a bit of applause and before ~ 40 sec of talking into the next number.) (4:16)
6. "Willie and Laura Mae" - Down-home story tellin’ with acoustic-electric guitar and harp. Think of “Harper Valley PTA.” (5:17)
7. * "Back to the Country" - A country dance number. Rockabilly guitar, honky-tonk piano drive the up-tempo fun. Get me a Lone Star. (3:24)
