Sarah Kirkland Snider / Shara Worden / Signal: Penelope: An epic song cycle, originally conceived as accompaniment to a theater piece and inspired by Homer’s Odyssey. Beautiful female vocals, and makes excellent use of the chamber orchestra. Difficult to fit into a single genre; awesome if you’re looking for enjoyable but unique material! FCC clean. Try 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 13, 14 (there’s just too many good ones!); try 3, 7, and 11 if you’re into experimental/noise/sound. 1) Frustrating strings that never seem to finish the line; crooning female vocals. 2) Deep/affected drums, deep violas, dancing strings, light female vocals. 3) Instrumental interlude; like a painting of sound. 4) Plucked strings and whispery vocals blossom into deep, multilayered sound! 5) Resonant strings and chimes, lingering vocals. 6) Interesting percussion, both deep and high-pitched strings. 7) Like Track 3, another gorgeous soundscape. 8) Instrumentals and vocals that evoke a feeling of dreams deferred. 9) Frantic/stressful strings and subterranean drums; a cappella ending 10) Like bubbles floating to the surface, plucked strings, smooth vocals, epic-sounding conclusion. 11) In the same vein as tracks 3 and 7. 12) Crawling with mystery and foreboding. 13) A hopeful sound here, with uplifting strings and vocals; sounds almost like Enya! 14) Long instrumental intro, chimes and wandering strings.
