Moody Kablawi , “Majazi: Album Tahdiri” (My Mood: Preparatory Album)
(Moody Arts, 2010) – ALL TRACKS FCC CLEAN
Reviewed by Abu Ramses
Debut album of Moody Kablawi, a Palestinian Arab citizen of Israel from Haifa. A newbee in the genre established by the first Palestinian-Israeli Arabic rap group - DAM (Da Arabic MCs) from Lydda, Israel founded in 1998. Unlike DAM, he does not use Hebrew, only Arabic words, and he tends to incorporate western rather than Arabic melodies with the hip hop beat. For example, Hollywood film sound track (sorry, I can’t recall the name) in background on 3, 6.
Tracks
**1. Introduces the artist & the album with an upbeat, almost frenzied rap - 1:30
2. Piano introduction, then orchestra & chorus back up a mid-tempo rap - 3:56
***3. Piano introduction, duet with Rami Shalah - 3:05
**4. Slow & plaintive intro, about the 2008-09 Israeli attack on Gaza. Surprise! He is outraged by Israel’s attacks on Palestinian civilians there – 3:43
***5. Most melodic track of album; piano backup & Rami Shalah - 4:16
6. Intro is similar style as #5; in praise of the Arab people, with Fatin Kabha-3:28
7. All spoken word. A satirical skit in one of the local dialects - 0:25
8. Driving chords in the background - 3:46
