Indie/folk singer-songwriter with several bones to pick, mostly with men. Subdued and mostly spare instrumentation, centered on guitar and vocals. Cynical lyrics are really the best part of the album. For fans of St. Vincent, the xx, Feist. Try 2, 1. FCC Clean
†1. 4.12 Midtempo. Opens with bass line and polished, muted disco line, with a clean keyboard bridge and a taste of blues on the bass at the end. Sounds like an odd brand of house music over which the falsetto vocals float.
†2. 3.46 Slow. Acoustic guitar strumming w/perturbing film score background.
3. 5.02 Slow, folksy. Soft acoustic guitar, stronger voice, desultory keyboard.
4. 3.08 Groovy w/incredibly cynical lyrics. Falsetto vocals, saccharine chorus.
5. 2.50 Folksy. Centered on the vocals, some muted brass in background.
6. 3.55 Slow, baroque rock ballad. Nostalgic and sad, what sounds like slide guitar and a background chorale, complete with violins.
7. 3.45 Orchestral pop. Cynical, subdued cabaret keyboard line, with its boisterous strings elevated to centerpiece for the bridge.
8. 3.40 Folk, muted distant drum line. Spare, with drawn out vocals.
9. 5.27 Heartbreaking. All minor chords on the piano, soft cymbal crashing and sad, sad voice. Instrumentation swells for an ominous end.
10. 5.30 Spoken word counting down from 101 to “One: God” over tense piano line with apprehensive strings.
