This is Amy Speace’s fifth release and is full of all those country, folk and singer / songwriter sounds. She sounds like Joni Mitchel, Judy Collins and a bit Lucinda Williams. Nice instrumentation of guitar, bass, drums, piano, organ, strings, lap steel with some backing vocals. Some really nice songs. FCC #5.
*My Favorites*: 3, 4, 7, 8.
1. (4:28) Slow / Mid. Loud, sparse drumbeat, keys, guitar. Paced vocal delivery. Song about driving at night to get to her lover.
2. (3:47) Slow / Mid. Ethereal, dreamy keys, percussion to start, then acoustic guitar and vocal. Becomes less spacey, with big production.
3. *(5:33) Slow. Acoustic guitar, organ, horns. Beautiful vocals, dreamy, hollow, biting. Song about being here, then gone. Great stuff.
4. *(4:30) Mid. Bluesy, folksy, country. Plodding beat, understated electric guitar, then killer, but quick, guitar solo.
5. (3:57) Mid. FCC.
6. (3:56) Slow. Jazzy and country with brushes on drums, lap steel, piano. Slow paced evening song. Very nice.
7. *(3:45) Slow. Acoustic guitar and vocal predominate. Outdoorsy song, relationship song. Great lyrics. Beautiful. Wow.
8. *(3:19) Mid. Great guitars, really folksy, backing vocals. Too short a song for how good it is.
9. (3:26) Slow / Mid. Guitar, lap steel, drums, bass. Relationship song.
10. (2:48) Slow. Sparse with guitar and vocal.
11. (5:15) Mid. Heavy drumbeat, dreamy, big production.
12. (4:11) Slow. Brushes on drums, organ, guitar, really sparse and quiet with male backing vocal.
