Badass nostalgic electronica jams with some interesting sci-fi elements and 8-bit samples. The band describes it as “the soundtrack to a dystopian children’s book published in 1981.” The tracks are definitely a little left-field but you could still dance to them if you tried. Great stuff!
RIYL: ROTFLOL, Flying Lotus, Family Cruise
*1. Killer electronic beat like something out of an 80’s instructional skateboarding video. And it’s ten minutes long and it rules. There is even an epic climax at the end. *2. Rapid, cascading Casio scales. About halfway in a beat kicks in and the song begins to get a darker atmosphere. 3. Lightning-speed keyboard jam with 8-bit samples. *4. Phillip Glass got a hold of a cheap Casio and busted out this out to impress his girlfriend. *5. Slower and more experimental than the others. Definitely a darker palette of sound, but it is unrivaled on this album for the sheer number of different twists, turns, and crazy elements it contains. 6. A crazy swirling kaleidoscope of sounds. Like that one 45 by Music From the Film we got a while ago that had three holes punched in it so when you played it, it sounded like you were on drugs. Has a 2 minute ambient break in the middle. *7. A very interesting collage of different rhythms and beats. Really varied—some are really catchy dancefloor grooves and some sound like amplified Starship Enterprise computer malfunctions. What a trip!
