ROBERTO MAGRIS QUINTET: Morgan Rewind, Vol. 1 jMood, 2011 HARD BOP – Italian pianist Magris pays tribute to legendary trumpeter Lee Morgan with a band anchored by master drummer Tootie Heath (a frequent associate of Morgan in the Philadelphia jazz scene of the 1950s). Production is a bit spotty – 2 & 6 have tiny traces of feedback – but the spirit is there. Most of the tunes are Morgan’s, but Magris channels him nicely in two original numbers (4,9). Pick any track out of the middle.
