Just what you’d expect from the bluesy vocals of Susan Tedeschi and husband Derek Trucks’ Allman Brothers-infused guitar sounds. There are some really nice songs here with some funk, jazz and country elements thrown in. Instrumentation of guitar, bass, percussion, piano, organ, horns, etc. No FCC’s.
*My Favorites*: 1, 2, 6, 8, 9, 11.
1. *(3:51) Mid. Upbeat with great, great sounding guitar with some wah-wah work. Male background vocals.
2. *(5:04) Slow / Mid. Mellow lovin’ groover, plodding beat, really tight band.
3. (5:53) Slow / Mid. Another mellow one with strong organ presence. Some nice guitar work.
4. (5:32) Mid. Great funky groovin’ mellow intro. Funky organ, bass. Killer guitar work toward end. Song title from Woody Guthrie’s autobiography.
5. (4:46) Slow / Mid. Nothing flashy, just a nice, easy-going song about the yearning of the simple things in life.
6. *(6:13) Slow / Mid. Jazzy with horns, subdued guitar, bass, drums, piano and organ. Strong vocal performance, bluesy guitar work kicks ass.
7. (3:58) Mid. Plodding beat with organ predominating.
8. *(6:02) Slow / Mid. Sarode (sounds like a sitar), tabla, tambourine, guitar, laid-back drums, has a bit of an Eastern flair. Packed with feeling, it’s beautiful.
9. *(4:25) Mid. Deep blues guitar, funky organ, bass. Kick ass with a video-game organ phrase. Cool guitar mimicking the vocal.
10. (1:47) Mid. INSTRUMENTAL. Funky with wah-wah guitar, syrupy organ and bass with a groovin’ beat.
11. *(5:57) Mid / Fast. Funktified jazzy rocker. Organ, horns, guitar, bass, drums all on a funky tack. Organ, guitar, bass and horn solos. Wow.
12. (7:59) Slow / Mid. A nice, easy-going, straight-ahead soulful blues. Song ends with 3:52 remaining, then a hidden track begins with 3:32 remaining, a soulful, bluesy, funky, jazzy INSTRUMENTAL.
