Georgia’s “fun rock” group executes on its self-description by adding a good deal of uptempo chaos to a southern drawl that draws heavily from Kings of Leon’s early vocal style. The kind of music made for a live show. No FCCs found. I recommend tracks 1&2.
1. *Instead of Spending My $20 on the Blink 182 Reunion Show I Took You Out on a Date and You Never Returned My Phone Call So Don’t Ever Expect to Eat Free Shrimp Scampi Again Bitch! Chaotic track about taking a girl on a date to Applebee’s and getting nowhere with her. Its multiple parts weave together with a charming carelessness. “I want a refund policy for every bad date there is.” (6:12)
2. ***Fire. Building to a shouting chorus. The catchiest number of the album, and a good representation of what Money Money represent as a group (3:42).
3. Kidz. Midtempo at first, picks up after a drum and vocals break down. (4:02)
4. Fight Club. Over-the-top song about fighting someone. More of a verbal riff on the phrase “simmer down” than a true song. But it does move in interesting ways. (5:13)
5. Breakin. Another largely-incoherent uptempo song. The drums give a semi-dancing feel to this otherwise straight rocker. (3:23)
6. London Bridges. Similar to the previous songs, but a little long. Not bad on any level, but it does not stand out or distinguish itself from previous tracks. (5:21)
7. Don’t Kiss the Merch Girl. The drums take the lead role in this song, especially toward the end. (5:26)
8. $. Another uptempo rocker. Cool breakdown in the middle. (4:22)
9. Wah U H Uh Oh. See title. (3:38)
10. The Sandwhich And I Thought We Were Friends. Change of pace. Still uptempo, but this track has a touch of melancholy. (5:10)
11. We Do This All Night Long (Shake That Ass Girl). Uptempo with a simple riff repeated and explored. (4:56)
12. Nothing Left to Lose. 45 seconds of near silence begin the song. Slow guitars ring with a girl’s voice talking over it. The rest is a robbery scene acted out. They go out shooting. One of the more interesting songs. (6:43)
