Thee Oh Sees: Local psyche’sters: Strange bent vocs, sarcastic almost, over psyche that veers into retro a tad but not too much. Fuzzed guitars, jangle, tambourine, but an overall heaviness somehow. Male vocs mostly but also female. Restrained production, not so much low-fi as distant. Not put through a reverb tank or heavily echo’ed, but just trippy. Barrett era Pink Floyd meets the Partridge Family, 13th Floor Elevators, later Nikki Sudden. Play with Syd Barrett. Great stuff.
1) (2:56) bouncy psyche pop, twisted like Syd Barrett, peppy like Partridge Family
2) (2:13) silly feel w/ flutes, upbeat
3) (3:11) dissonant flutes, brass, bouncy feel contrasts, strange
4) (2:08) driving almost punky with skronky horns
5-6) (both 2:42) tambourine, fuzzy guits, driving feel makes them very late 60’s, track 5 is more upbeat poppy, 6 darker
7) (0:56) bent strange brief
8) (2:27) upbeat, strange, dense
9) (2:18) dreamy synth, upbeat, interesting percussion and guitar
10) (2:31) soaring searing guit,, upbeat driving
11) (3:03) upbeat, jangly
12) (1:28) messed up intro, jangly fun smacks of Neutral Milk Hotel
13) (3:52) experimental: fluty synths, Beatles’esque ambience meets The Residents, careful! A good 30 secs of dead air at end
14) (2:30) chill, different w/ fem vocals over minimal percussion and synth
15) (3:35) slower jangle ballad
16) (3:22) darker strummy with distant fem vocs psyche
