DUSTIN O’HALLORAN: Vorleben (original compositions)

Recorded before a live audience in Berlin’s Grunewald Church in 2009, OHalloran’s piano solo compositions are generally somber by virtue of their emphasis on minor keys, but with singing melodies and many lovely harmonic effects. No virtuoso effects. All drama is of a quiet type.

1. Opus 54. 4:37. Descending arpeggiated harmonies.
2. Opus 7. 3:18. Slow, minor key, elegiac march.
3. Prelude No. 3. 3:47. Adagio, minor key, arpeggios, melodies consisting of short phrases.
4. Opus 21. 3:49. Slow, mazurka-like, then 4/4, lovely melody.
5. Opus 15. 2:57. Minor key chorale.
6. Opus 28. 3:18. Evokes flowing water via accompaniment.
7. Opus 17. 1:58. Reminiscent of a two-voice Bach Prelude.
8. Opus 23. 2:58. Lyrical, remembrance.
9. Opus 38. 5:50. Slow, 7th chords, minor harmonies, descending.
10. Opus 37. 3:49. Like a slow Debussy prelude.
