FOOL'S GOLD: "Leave No Trace" -- Upbeat, dancey stuff that makes you smile. Soulful, pop grooves. All worth airplay. Faves: 1, 9, 2, 3, 6, 10.
--Sunshine, September 2011
***** 1) The Dive (4:02) -- Happy-go-lucky, frolicking attitude. Made me smile after stressing on some stuff. I want to dance! Almost Latin-Caribbean sound to it, with a bluesy feel. Vocals are tasty, too.
**** 2) Wild Window (2:57) -- Bizarre start, then upbeat and cheerful. I feel like I'm on vacation! Cool beat. Some interesting sound effects. A little dull toward end.
**** 3) Street Clothes (5:01) -- Tears For Fears meets Harvey Mandel. Good rhythms, guitar and bassline. A bit redundant.
*** 4) Leave No Trace (3:28) -- Not quite a calypso groove, but somewhat different than the first three. Mid-tempo.
*** 5) Balmy (4:46) -- Somewhat chaotic and mysteriously suspenseful.
**** 6) Narrow Sun (4:14) -- Are we at church? Like Phil Collins and Genesis. Then shifts into almost a zydeco groove. Sax!!!
*** 7) Tel Aviv (5:04) -- Catchy. Grabs you. I feel like I am traveling. Then, lyrics come in -- in Hebrew! (It's Rosh Hashanah as I write this!)
*** 8) Mammal (4:21) -- Calliope-ish.
*****9) Bark and Bite (4:57) -- Kind of like #1. But this one is the first with vocal harmonies.
**** 10) Lantern (4:33) -- Slowest song on CD. Sort of like album;'s swan song. The sun has set. Soulful vocals. Rather introspective feeling.
