Grey Reverend / Of the Days / Motion Audio Records / 2011
Songs by LD Brown under the name of Grey Reverend. (including, supposedly, the use of a “rice cooker”? hmm). Recorded in Brooklyn, uses a great photo from 1942 as his cover art. Retrospective.
Soft Folk, acoustics, with harmonica. Melancholic deep resonating voice, clear. Similar to José Gonzalez, The National, or even a folkier/indier James Taylor (it’s the voice). Guitar sounds at times like newer Tallest Man On Earth.
Nice lyrics (one inside of cover booklet), pretty heartfelt (all about love it seems). Honestly this guy is somewhat sad, but in a nice way. Alone-time music.
Favorites: 3,4,5,7,9 5 = instrumental

1: “Altruistic Holiday” - Nice emotional tune, with vague lyrics, remind of James Taylor.
2: “Walk the Same” - The guitar sounds like newer Tallest Man on Earth, but the vocals are far from it. Deep clear voice.
3*: “One by One” - Voice slightly different here- more intonations, bit more folky. Nice lyrics and very pleasant listen. Deeper and stronger acoustic guitar.
4*: “Forsake” - Calm, pleasant, catchy lyrics. Harmonica comes in perfectly.
5*: “Little Eli” - Very nice guitar, folky, INSTRUMENTAL. (Could be played background during micbreak)
6: “Little Mockingbirds” - Soft guitar, with strong deep melancholic vocals
7*: “Box” - Catchy folk guitar. Mellow, lyrics are great, not so somber.
8: “Begging to Borrow” - Emotions! Definitely a bit sad, but hopeful lyrics. Nice acoustic guitar.
9*: “Road Less Traveled” - This starts off like a Bon Iver song with it’s acoustic guitar, but the voice says differently. Mellow, somber, pleasant, soulful - a nice ending tune.
