Caged Animals -- Eat Their Own -- Lucky Number Caged Animals is New Jersey native Vincent Cacchione’s self-styled "weird brand of home-recorded pop." Lots of New Wave synth, with dark Neil Young-ish guitar solos and crunch drum machines. Each track is slightly unique from the other, but most have a darker, yearning sense to them. The third track is the best. No FCCs 1. (1:55) Echoes, cool drum machine, synth. Pretty, hypnotic female vocals. 2. (2:04) Mid-fast. Plucky guitars and palm-muting. Vibratto male vocals. Claps. Ondes Martenot. *3. (3:36) Mid. Bass. swishing electrics. Descending verse and chorus. Discordant, string-bending guitars. Catchy, whiny chorus. Good! 4. (2:45) Mid. New wave. Fuzzy beats. Reverb vocals. Dark and honest. Twangy lead guitar. 5. (3:35) Slow. Auto-tune emo. 6. (2:31) Slow. Dark slide guitars. Imagine a sad slow dance at hipster prom. 7. (3:09) Mid-slow. Electronics. Cool bass and drum beat. The rest is slightly dull. 8. (2:59) MId. Piano intro. Kid-A sounds. Vibratto guitars and sluggish bass. Nice new wave groove, similar to track 4.
9. (3:06) Slow. 80s synth. Echo falsettos. Electronic arpeggios. A squeal of an end. 10. *(3:38) Mid. Vibratto, dark guitars. Has a Depeche Mode vibe to it. Addicting chorus. Good! 11. (3:57) Mid-slow. Sampled radio voices. Female vocals laid over dull beat. boring. 12. *(2:28) Mid. Sinister yet honest. Rad bass, nice steady groove. Lead guitar and lovely solo at end. |
