The UK’s bluesman Siegal joins forces with blues legends youngest sons Garry (R.L.) Burnside, Robert (Junior) Kimbrough, Rodd (Bobby Blue) Bland and Cody (Jim, who played with and produced many notable musicians) Dickinson. It’s southern rock, it’s Mississippi trance blues, it’s rockin’ blues. Slide guitars, bass, drums, some backing vocals. Alvin Youngblood Hart, Duwayne Burnside and Andre Turner guest. Some killer stuff here. No FCC’s.
*My Favorites*: 1, 2, 4, 7, 10.
1. *(4:51) Mid. Title track. Low-down, subtle menacing guitar, plodding beat. Deep southern stew.
2. *(5:41) Mid. Funktified stroll with wah-wah guitar, lots of cymbal hits. Crazy guitar phrase with 1:45 remaining.
3. (5:19) Mid. Has that signature Black Keys sound. Minimalistic and mean. Guitar and drums predominate.
4. *(7:40) Slow / Mid. Vicious voodoo trance. Heavy drumbeat, guitar solos, with extended instrumental phrase in the middle.
5. (5:03) Mid. Loping, easy-going jam. Some killer guitar work.
6. (5:15) Mid. Channeling some John Lee Hooker strutting, with processed vocals. Crunchy and driving.
7. *(5:06) Slow / Mid. Bluesy acoustic slide guitar, backing vocals. Nice, easy pacing.
8. (3:55) Mid / Fast. Upbeat, call and response, percussion heavy with flute. Sparse and driving.
9. (3:52) Mid. Story-song about Moonshine Minnie. Easy groover.
10. *(4:07) Mid. All-out slide guitar showcase. Two guitars and vocal with footstomps. Killer.
11. (4:20) MId. Song for Dennis Hopper. Rockin’ blues.
