New York City based “dance-punk” group The Rapture’s third album. Although some songs are led by more traditional dance hooks with catchy synth lines, others rely more upon rock elements and guitar riffs. 1. (5:21)* Yearning vocals complimented by perpetually building drums and synth. Fades out slowly for the last 1:45 with instrumentals.
2. (4:11)* Melodic bass line and hand claps throughout. Keyboards and synthesizer come in during the chorus.
3. (3:07) Uptempo. Driving drums and distorted vocals that slow down every so often as a squealing guitar riff takes over.
4. (5:39) Midtempo. Initially anchored by dreamy vocals and synths it slows down halfway and the bass becomes heavier.
5. (5:36) High pitched vocals complimented by punchy synths and a simple guitar riff.
6. (4:00) Funky electronic with twitchy guitar riffs and the occasional horn.
7. (3:41) Rolling drums and a repetitive chorus do its best to mimic this song’s namesake.
8. (3:57) Synthpop track with slightly obscured vocals further obscured by the dreamy synthesizer. Fades out for the last 45 seconds.
9. (2:52) Urgent and restless sounding with the occasional oscillating and squealing guitar.
10. (6:28)** Catchy piano riff backed by a punchy bassline and distorted synths. Yearning vocals further add to the tempo.
11. (5:41) Slower track driven by piano and guitar riffs. Punchy bassline throughout. Instrumental with saxophone for the last minute.
