Benin’s “Godfather of Funk.” He was active with his band, “Ses Commandos” in the 1960s and 70s. This is hot, high powered African R&B/soul with a big sound. Some tracks have that sort of muted “recorded a long time ago” sound, but that just adds to the coolness. Every track deserves some love.

1. Hot and fast w/big guitars, horns, and vocals. Yow!
2. Funky guitars, big voice, percussion. Such great stuff.
3. More relaxed with a down & dirty Afro groove.
4. Fun, fast, wicked energy.
5. Driving hipness with fiery energy and a soulful groove.
6. Blues-infused funk, call-response vocals, wickedly hip.
7. Relaxed, mostly midtempo w/great use of sax.
8. Nicely jamming Afro funk w/great work from the band.
9. Downtempo w/some great guitar work. So cool!
10. Great upbeat funk featuring some great drumming.
11. Upbeat wiggle. Probably the happiest song ever about cholera.
12. Slow duet for drum/vocals. Dramatic but way cool.
