Brooklyn-based experimental artist Christopher Merritt sent us a package of tapes a little while back—this one from Digitalis is perhaps the finest example of his intricate collagework which has all the intimate/organic elements of Silver Bullets and Super Minerals, and the fantastic expansive soundscapes of No Mind Meditation and Hobo Cubes. In my opinion, his strongest release to date. Five stars. |

1. (11:25) MIT Media Lab camera axe videos of fireworks blowing up in slow motion, junkyard foundsounds, skittering electronics, etc. A nice juicy gumbo of cool electronics and distortions that all build around a powerful photon torpedo barrage of synthesizer, which pummels the very medium, blasts the EQ into the red, and shoots for the stars.
2. (10:45) Starts with crunchy blown-out beats (in the extraterrestrial style of Clams Casino) and later transitions into blurry patchwork of gently plucked acoustic guitar, rainsticks, atypical percussion, the rush of water—all sorts of creatively blended recordings. Fantastic.
