Swede Jakob Olausson plays psychedelic folk-rock bringing to mind late 60s – early 70s Brit folk rockers like Pentangle, Renaissance, Fairport Convention. A highlight is the multi-layered, multi-textured guitars. Usually there’s a simply strummed acoustic plus at least two electrics: jangly, fuzzy, reverbed, or whatever. It makes for an interesting, sort of druggy sound. The lowlight, sadly, is the singing. Wish I could say it’s an acquired taste, Leonard-Cohen sort of thing, but the truth is he’s just not a very good singer. Far too often he finds a note by process of elimination, till he finds one he likes. Still this is worth a listen.

No FCC issues.

* Medium slow. Twangy, chiming guitar. Vox is sort of a Gregorian-chant drone. (5:25)
Slow folk ballad. Trombones glide less than this guy’s singing. (5:56)
** Mid-tempo. Twangy guitar. Vox mixed back. Time travel to 60s psychedelic (4:26)
Very slow. Dream like. Can hardly distinguish anything through the thick haze. (3:38)
Slow. Animals or Doors-like organ adds interest. Lead guitar is jangly but solo improvisations lose their way. Vox is especially muddy. (3:04)
Dominated by a ridiculously amateurish drumming effort; can’t keep time. (3:16)
* Nearest thing here to a proper song: a hummable, catchy melody and a lyric with verses and a refrain, even memorable hook. A real nice jangly guitar too. (4:27)
Slow & hazy. A bit druggy. Production may have a hint of Alan Parsons Project (or maybe not). Singing drops down into a deeper baritone that works better for him. (4:57)
